Thanks Don, this is a good summary.

We also have a couple of repeaters fitted with crossband link radios.  
One is a VHF repeater with UHF link radio, the other is a UHF repeater 
with VHF link radio. These are useful for various purposes, an obvious 
one being off-air linking between sites. Another use is where it is 
necessary to have separate nets on the same band but without mutual 
interference.  Solution: set up the repeater a little distance away from 
AWI and use the link frequency to connect to AWI.

I have updated the spreadsheet I developed some years ago, attached.  
This looks at how various comms modes stack up against what I believe 
are some important criteria for a good emergency comms system, and 
complements the analysis in your spreadsheet.
