WICEN Vic: Gippsland weather event

To all WICEN Vic members,

I checked into the Gippsland REMT hookup this afternoon which was convened
in preparation for the impending severe weather event and has been likened
to the prelude to the June 2007 event. The forecast regional focus of the
east coast low has shifted more to South & West Gippsland which would see
downstream flooding around Sale and Stratford initially. The peak rains
are expected overnight Wednesday into Thursday.

It is planned for the RCC in Traralgon, plus ICCs in Traralgon and
Bairnsdale to be open 24/7 for five days. Road closures and evacuations
are expected, and a police helicopter is preemptively being dedicated to
the region.

Covid considerations are limiting, at least initially, the size of the
emergency teams in Traralgon and Bairnsdale.

Whilst WICEN is more or less a resource of last resort, it would be useful
to top up your batteries and check over your equipment to make sure it is
in working order as we have had a role to play with some past flooding
events.
