WICEN Vic: Member Survey Presentation & Web SDR's

To all WICEN Vic members,

 

Next Thursday 24th September commencing @ 2000hrs instead of / part of our usual Thursday night WICEN Vic Zoom meetup I’ll do a presentation of the results from the recent member survey. I encourage you all to join, participate and provide any additional commentary as we take a walk through the questions. A link to download a PDF file will be released to all members shortly after. The subcommittee hopes to complete its findings and release the interim organisational review document on time to the CoM and the Commanders and Coordinators late next week all going well.  

 

Often members comment they can’t get on the Tuesday night next as they don’t or can’t have a effective 80M antenna at their home QTH. Most understandable and unfortunate unless your complying with the Minister of Housing then a happy home is well, let’s leave it at that. Don VK3SP suggested members could listen on a web SDR. Don has written some details and links below (their also in SLACK.com). If you can check in on a Tuesday evening @ 2030hrs via a WEB SDR why not post some signal reports on SLACK.com, send an email or SMS that night to the net controller saying you’re listening and then send some signal reports in via email for the net controllers log. 

 

There are several ways members can keep in touch even with a busy life. In saying that I better get back to cleaning up after the kids lunch mess and that Uni assignment that won’t write itself. Thanks Don for an excellent suggestion and information.

 

 

WEB SDR

There are many locations around the world where Software Defined Radios (SDR) have been connected to the internet and are publicly available.

The list below is from the KiwiSDR community and lists some in or near Victoria.

Many operators are using remote web SDR to confirm propagation or to enable QSO when local conditions are not suitable.

WICEN members might like to use these to monitor the weekly Tuesday night net if your environment is noisy etc – or if you do not have a suitable HF station.

If you identify other web accessible SDR’s , please add them to this list.
